Hi Vicky,

Again great article and fully agree. We've been looking for quality pictures for our web portal promoting Moray and Speyside, www.GreaterSpeyside.com. The photo's on our web site have been made by people on holiday in the area and posting them on Flickr. We've emailed them asking them to promote their work and they were very happy to do so. Flickr is good! And made some friends along the way too!

Speak soon!

Thanks guys - I think you both highlight two really important characteristics of these photos which is why they have such value. They are individuals doing this for the pleasure of it, and they have a timeliness and a zeitgeist that can't be manufactured in advance to reflect print schedules etc. Looking at those BC pictures didn't just make me want to visit, they make me want to visit right now! Instead I am stuck on a train in a flood minus my camera. I'd love to hear how other destinations are working with Flickr.

Thanks for this great post.

I live in Provence tourism area and I find on Flickr more than 150 000 great pictures around this touristic area.

All of them from individual and not from Tourim Board or larger DMO's !!!!

Also we see a udge widgets market who use Flickr photo as content for their tools.

Can't agree with you more Vicky. There are some amazing pictures on Flickr and they can sell a destination all by themselves. Check out the Beautiful British Columbia group for another example:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/british_columbia/pool/

I've identified this as a huge opportunity at Tourism British Columbia to use Flickr as a source for photography. The large base of photographers are perfect for those shots you'll never get again.

We also have our own account where we post the pictures users submit on our blog section: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tourism_bc/
