Thanks for the comments folks - your right Chris, they do link to Trip Advisor, but what a wasted opportunity when they have such great reviews - why not import them and show them with pride, or at least link direct to them.

Bruce, funny you should say that ;-)

Paul - I think there is still a fear of looking at what people are saying about you in case its bad.

Yet research has found (an e-marketer article you can find in my del-icio-us links: http://blog.highlandbusinessresearch.com/delicious-links-to-what-were-reading/ ) that comments actually trend more positive than negative.

I think it is better to know what is being said so you can do something about it. The conference hotel is a case in point - if they'd simply addressed the bad bathroom commens issue (for example with a few pictures to show they'd taken comments on board and updated their bathrooms) they could have learned and moved on and not lost business as a result.

Its potentially free market research, which can only benefit you if you tap in and listen!

Thanks again for the comments

Interesting article--and no doubt a shared experience.

I noticed that the Hotel Rival actually does link to Tripadvisor--but only for the city of Stockolm, not for the hotel!
